Today's polish was GORGEOUS, but so hard to capture on camera. At first glance it appears similar to The Heart, which I had on a couple weeks ago, but this one had a subtle shift to it that was stunning. This is Arion from Bee's Knees Lacquer. 😺

I got so caught up in doing a million little things tonight I almost forgot, I’m genuinely so bad at timekeeping good god. But hey! I wanted to post something for Halloween, since my Monstertober stuff ain’t ready. 

Honestly, the LOIL gang be thriving on Halloween. It’s spooky night and they do a spooky podcast, it’s THEIR night!!! Even if Jack could not possibly give less of a shit clearly.

Tfw you're working on your Star Wars Fanart only to get distracted by an Ever After High AU for a movie from 2012. Anyways here's my OCS in a Pitch Perfect AU! (Plus some canon Fanart aka scene redraws for movies 1 & 2.)

Notes:

In the AU, Arion takes the role of Beca (because they're basically the same character it's seriously uncanny whoops), while Rose and Anteros take the roles of Chloe and Jesse, respectively, with some minor alterations (they occasionally swap places as needed for the narrative cause Rose is much closer to Jesse personality-wise but I needed the final serenade to go like the original otherwise what even is the point so i couldn't just swap them permanently). Arion and Rose are in a mixed-gender group called the Fairy Tones, while Anteros ends up in an all-masc group called the Charming Chords. There's also a third rival group called the Twister Misters but they don't really do much. As for the drawings themselves, they're basically just redone scenes from the movies, like the aca-initiation featuring a Tempis cameo (it's fruit punch Rose swears), the scene from the radio station where Jesse (now Rose cause all three of them work there) uses the various album covers to try to make Beca laugh (and very nearly succeeds not that she'd ever admit it) (Anteros thinks it's funny but Arion thinks they've all gone absolutely batty), and of course the iconic Fist Pump from the end, featuring a bonus Kenni in the Benji role! (Tho actually I'm toying with Andre-as-Benji cause then he and Arion could be Besties™ and i could have an easy segue into an Andre and Rose B-plot. But I digress.)

As for the canon drawings, i just did some favorite scenes, like the picnic (he has juices pouches and Rocky! How could anyone not love him?!) And the audition (still one of the funniest scenes in the movie tbh as far as individual lines from characters go, excellent introduction of personalities). Also that part of the riff off from the sequel cause a) Anna Kendrick KILLED it with Before He Cheats, and b) i was mildly offended we didn't get a Live Slug Jesse Reaction shot because I'm absolutely certain his expression would've been hysterical (mostly in how... Not scared he'd look 😂)

Also also, i think these kids should meet; Beca and Arion could silently judge people together to their hearts content, while Jesse and Rose would immediately launch into French serenades with zero hesitation. (Also Beca is wearing a Trebles Hoodie cause i know what I'm about.)

ok. did not realize until now that the narrator was the Phantom Stranger.

I don’t know why I was surprised that Mary didn’t know who the Phantom Stranger was. maybe it would make sense for her to know if she was transformed and currently connected to the Wisdom of Solomon which tends to give a lot more information than what’s you’d expect Solomon to know, but I think it’s been a long time since she’s transformed or even been that active as a hero. this is making me realize that we have no idea how long Mary’s been Zatanna’s student. She’s not new to the group like Khalid but idk how long not new is.

again loving The Child and also so surprised that she has the same voice actor as Mary.

lmao what. his “simple” plan is to just sink Atlantis into the sea. he thought that that would sound like a good idea and that Arion would agree??

interesting how chaos and order is being brought into Vandal’s history here beyond just the obvious involvement of the lords of chaos and order. I expect Zatanna will also being dealing with some sort of chaos vs order thing. also “shortsightedness” again. seeing the themes of this arc here.

aaaand Jason Blood. so many magic character appearances. feel like we are getting closer to an appearance of the wizard Shazam. like we gotta see him at some point in this arc.

hmmm Mary going to touch something in Jason Blood’s house and being told not to cause it’s powerful. don’t really see her as the impulsive type ordinarily who would recklessly touch things in a magic person’s house. we will see how this pans out. also what was that it looked like a golden metal armor thing with a dragon on it. I assume that that’s related to Jason Blood’s origin story somehow.

dang she keeps trying to touch things. Mary what are you doing. does the wizard Shazam just let her touch whatever items in the Rock of Eternity like she’s so curious.

Mary!! What are you doing!! you’ve been told to stop :( like what’s with this I don’t really know the other two but does this not fit Traci’s personality better?? is this gonna be relevant later? like is she learning something useful from this that’ll be used later or will this habit of hers come up again?

also Jason Blood hasn’t let Etrigan out in years. a cannon he’s hesitant to use. wonder if this’ll be related to Mary’s hesitance to transform in any way.

oh my god what wtf ok so they are doing something magic with the bus. it’s not just a joke cameo. the bus was in space. most unexpected thing so far. is it gonna be in every episode this arc?

oh dang I was right!!! they are connecting Jason Blood hesitating to turn to Etrigan to Mary’s refusing to say Shazam and transform. literally yay just more and more building on this. she will transform this arc I know it. confrontation of Mary’s past let’s go.

ok are they just gonna keep taking new people to Klarion and The Child’s location. c’mon I wanna see Mary brought there and be forced to transform.

I was like Zatanna is finally doing something after all that happened while she did nothing and she immediately got knocked out. not even on purpose. I’m here for Mary but like at this point even I am like ok... was this not supposed to be Zatanna’s arc? she hasn’t gotten the chance to do anything yet and it’s the second episode of her arc.

ummmm. so the spirit of doctor fate within the helmet all this time is Vandal Savage’s son? whack. I assume Klarion doesn’t know about Savage’s connection to his enemy.

oooh ok so similar to Jason Blood talking about Etrigan as a weapon that he’s barely able to aim Vandal Savage is here talking about Klarion as a weapon that he’s learned to aim. liking the parallels in this arc let’s see a parallel conversation regarding Mary and her other form sometime please.

also yeah Zatara is aging and it looks like Khalid will be becoming the new Doctor Fate this arc.

ooh project lifeboat. ok so Vandal Savage is preparing for the end of the world. I think that this was a good use of the ending scene. also having Cassandra here makes it more clear to me how this season is building upon previous arcs just not as directly as another plotting approach would.

Predictions and Theories for Zatanna’s arc

I’m gonna do so many of these. You guys will be sick of me. And SPOILERS

Okay

So I believe that the Atlantis Vandal established doubles or is a precursor to the Homo Magi. So when Atlantis sinks it becomes the source of human magic for Earth 16 orrrrr only part of Atlantis sinks, the remaining earth bound Atlantis becomes the hidden city and the people become Homo Magi.

Also a frightening conclusion to draw is that all Meta Humans are directly descended from Vandal. It might end up being more prominent for Zatanna? Might not. But that was something that hadn’t crossed my mind. Zatanna being able to claim lineage from Vandal lol. Gross but i guess I should’ve realized this sooner 😂

Time and Time Again!

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #2 MAY 1985 BY MARV WOLFMAN, GEORGE PEREZ, DICK GIORDANO, ANTHONY TOLLIN, LEN WEIN AND ROBERT GREENBERGER

SYNOPSIS (FROM DC DATABASE)

Anthro the Cave-Boy leads a herd of mammoths away from the village of the Bear Clan tribe. After falling from atop one of the great beasts, he peers through the underbrush where he sees an image of a great futuristic city. He shakes his head and when he looks again, the image is gone. In addition, the herd of mammoths that he had corralled is likewise missing.

Members of the Legion of Super-Heroes discover the displaced mammoths stampeding through Plaza Square in Metropolis. Colossal Boy attempts to scoop them up into his giant arms, but they suddenly disappear.

In Gotham City, the Joker murders film mogul, Harold J. Standish. Batman crashes through the window and attempts to disarm the villain, but the Joker keeps him at bay with an adhesive shooting flower. Suddenly, a distraught image of the Flash appears before them, warning about the end of the world. Batman tries to talk to the Flash, but he disintegrates before his eyes.

On board the Monitor's satellite, the Monitor warns his assemblage that a wave of antimatter energy is sweeping through the Multiverse consuming entire realities. He has established certain devices throughout the various realities designed to halt the antimatter wall. He requires the heroes to travel to each reality and activate each of the devices. Nobody truly trusts the Monitor, but they realize that they have little choice but to heed his warnings.

Superman of Earth-Two, King Solovar and Dawnstar travel to Earth-AD, the world of Kamandi. They find the adventurer, Kamandi, scaling the side of an immense golden tower. The heroes realize that this is of the devices that the Monitor spoke of. A horde of Demon-Shadows arrives to sabotage the tower, but the heroes manage to drive them away.

Arion, Obsidian and the Psycho-Pirate arrive in ancient Atlantis. Suddenly, Pariah arrives, but quickly falls sway to the Psycho-Pirate's emotion manipulation. Arion turns his power against the Psycho-Pirate and frees Pariah of his influence. Psycho-Pirate suddenly disappears and re-materializes in a darkened room. A deep voice bellows forth to him, commanding him to follow his every order. The Psycho-Pirate, terrified by this mysterious individual, meekly complies.

Meanwhile back on the Monitor's satellite, the Monitor asks Harbinger to retrieve Alexander Luthor from his nursery. Harbinger is shocked to discover that Alex, formerly an infant, is now the age of a young toddler. Suddenly, the dark influence of the Demon-Shadow takes control of her, commanding her to betray the Monitor.

REVIEW

While a Justice League issue mentioned the space-time anomalies, it was too early in the timeline for that story to experience these. This should be beginning of the Crisis, at least visibly, in other titles.

These characters have very good reasons to not trust the Monitor, even when he is trying to gain their trust, he is not entirely transparent.

The Flash cameo in this issue was more than a clue for Flash readers, as by the time this came out, the Flash trial was still ongoing. It is later mentioned by Batman and Superman that the Flash disappeared. Not many certainties in their dialogues, but it doesn’t match the current status quo for the character. This, helped by the many rumors that the Flash was going to die in the Crisis made some fans really mad.

But reading this issue, it’s not just the Flash that seems to be about to die... it’s pretty much everyone.
